The rebellion was timed to coincide with the Soviet Union&#8217;s\u00a0<a title=\"Red Army\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Red_Army\">Red Army<\/a>\u00a0approaching the eastern suburbs of the city and the retreat of German forces.<sup><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Warsaw_Uprising#cite_note-sb-9\">[9]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0However, the Soviet advance stopped short, enabling the Germans to regroup and demolish the city while defeating the Polish resistance, which fought for 63 days with little outside support.<\/p>\n<p>The uprising began on 1 August 1944, as part of a nationwide plan,\u00a0<a title=\"Operation Tempest\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Operation_Tempest\">Operation\u00a0<em>Tempest<\/em><\/a>, when the Soviet Army\u00a0<a title=\"Lublin-Brest Offensive Operation\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lublin-Brest_Offensive_Operation\">approached Warsaw<\/a>. The main Polish objectives were to drive the German occupiers from the city and help with the larger fight against Germany and the\u00a0<a title=\"Axis powers\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Axis_powers\">Axis powers<\/a>. Secondary political objectives were to liberate Warsaw before the Soviets, to underscore Polish\u00a0<a title=\"Sovereignty\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sovereignty\">sovereignty<\/a>\u00a0by empowering the\u00a0<a title=\"Polish Underground State\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Polish_Underground_State\">Polish Underground State<\/a>\u00a0before the Soviet-backed\u00a0<a title=\"Polish Committee of National Liberation\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Polish_Committee_of_National_Liberation\">Polish Committee of National Liberation<\/a>\u00a0could assume control. Also, short-term causes included the threat of a German round-up of able-bodied Poles, and Moscow radio calling for the Uprising to begin.<\/p>\n<p>Initially, the Poles established control over most of central Warsaw, but the Soviets ignored Polish attempts to establish radio contact and did not advance beyond the city limits. Intense street fighting between the Germans and Poles continued. By 14 September,\u00a0<a title=\"First Polish Army (1944-1945)\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/First_Polish_Army_(1944-1945)\">Polish forces under Soviet high command<\/a>\u00a0occupied the east bank of the\u00a0<a title=\"Wis\u0142a River\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Wis%C5%82a_River\">Wis\u0142a River<\/a>\u00a0opposite the insurgents&#8216; positions; but only 1,200 men made it across to the west bank, and they were not reinforced by the bulk of the Red Army. This, and the lack of Soviet air support from a base 5 minutes flying time away, led to allegations that\u00a0<a title=\"Joseph Stalin\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Joseph_Stalin\">Joseph Stalin<\/a>\u00a0tactically halted his forces to let the operation fail and allow the Polish insurrectionists to be crushed.<a title=\"Arthur Koestler\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Arthur_Koestler\">Arthur Koestler<\/a>\u00a0called the Soviet attitude &#8222;one of the major infamies of this war which will rank for the future historian on the same ethical level with\u00a0<a title=\"Lidice\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lidice\">Lidice<\/a>. &#8222;<sup><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Warsaw_Uprising#cite_note-10\">[10]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Winston Churchill\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Winston_Churchill\">Winston Churchill<\/a>\u00a0pleaded with Stalin and\u00a0<a title=\"Franklin D. Roosevelt\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Franklin_D._Roosevelt\">Franklin D. Roosevelt<\/a>\u00a0to help Britain&#8217;s Polish allies, to no avail. Then, without Soviet\u00a0<a title=\"Air traffic control\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Air_traffic_control\">air clearance<\/a>, Churchill sent over 200 low-level supply drops by the\u00a0<a title=\"Royal Air Force\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Royal_Air_Force\">Royal Air Force<\/a>, the\u00a0<a title=\"South African Air Force\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/South_African_Air_Force\">South African Air Force<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0<a title=\"Polish Air Force\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Polish_Air_Force\">Polish Air Force<\/a>\u00a0under British High Command. Later, after gaining Soviet air clearance, the\u00a0<a title=\"US Army Air Force\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/US_Army_Air_Force\">US Army Air Force<\/a>\u00a0sent one high-level mass airdrop as part of\u00a0<a title=\"Operation Frantic\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Operation_Frantic\">Operation\u00a0<em>Frantic<\/em><\/a>. Soviet Union refused to allow American bombers from Western Europe to land on Soviet airfields after dropping supplies to the Poles.<sup><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Warsaw_Uprising#cite_note-11\">[11]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n<p>Although the exact number of casualties remains unknown, it is estimated that about 16,000 members of the Polish resistance were killed and about 6,000 badly wounded. In addition, between 150,000 and 200,000 Polish civilians died, mostly from mass executions.\u00a0<a title=\"Rescue of Jews by Poles during the Holocaust\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rescue_of_Jews_by_Poles_during_the_Holocaust\">Jews being harboured by Poles<\/a>\u00a0were exposed by German house-to-house clearances and mass evictions of entire neighbourhoods. German casualties totalled over 8,000 soldiers killed and missing, and 9,000 wounded. During the\u00a0<a title=\"Urban combat\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Urban_combat\">urban combat<\/a>\u00a0approximately 25% of Warsaw&#8217;s buildings were destroyed. Following the surrender of Polish forces, German troops systematically leveled another 35% of the city block by block. Together with earlier damage suffered in the\u00a0<a title=\"Invasion of Poland (1939)\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Invasion_of_Poland_(1939)\">1939 invasion of Poland<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0<a title=\"Warsaw Ghetto Uprising\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Warsaw_Ghetto_Uprising\">Warsaw Ghetto Uprising<\/a>\u00a0in 1943, over 85% of the city was destroyed by January 1945, when the course of the events in the\u00a0<a title=\"Eastern Front (World War II)\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Eastern_Front_(World_War_II)\">Eastern Front<\/a>\u00a0forced the Germans to abandon the city.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Warsaw_Uprising\">http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Warsaw_Uprising<\/a><!--:--><!--:pl--><strong>Powstanie Warszawskie 1944<\/strong>, to wyst\u0105pienie zbrojne przeciwko wojskom niemieckim, okupuj\u0105cym stolic\u0119, zorganizowane przez Armi\u0119 Krajow\u0105 w dniach 1 sierpnia 31 pa\u017adziernika 1944 roku.\u00a0<strong>Powstanie Warszawskie 1944<\/strong>\u00a0zosta\u0142o przeprowadzone w ram ach akcji \u201eBurza\u201d. Za poczatek powstania warszawskiego uznaje si\u0119 dat\u0119 1 sierpie\u0144 1944, czas &#8211; tzw.\u00a0<strong>Godzina W<\/strong>. G\u0142\u00f3wnym celem powstania warszawskiego by\u0142o obalenie Niemc\u00f3w, a tak\u017ce ratowanie suwerenno\u015bci, kszta\u0142tu granicy wschodniej sprzed wojny, a tak\u017ce obrona przed stworzeniem w Warszawie w\u0142adz pa\u0144stwowych narzuconych przez ZSRR. Istotn\u0105 rol\u0119 je\u015bli chodzi o dzia\u0142ania zbrojne odegra\u0142 T. B\u00f3r Komorowski. Dzi\u015b \u015bladem po tych dzia\u0142aniach jest Muzeum powstania warszawskiego.<br \/>\n<strong>Powstanie 44<\/strong>, bez w\u0105tpienia zaliczane jest do jednego z najistotniejszych wydarze\u0144 ko\u0144ca wojny.<\/p>\n<p>W przeddzie\u0144 wybuchu Powstania Warszawskiego do ludno\u015bci zaapelowa\u0142 Zwi\u0105zek patriot\u00f3w Polskich, apeluj\u0105c do walki przeciwko niemieckiemu okupantowi. Zbli\u017caj\u0105ca si\u0119\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.dobroni.pl\/wojsko,armia-czerwona,10174\" target=\"_blank\">Armia Czerwona<\/a>, jej sukcesy na froncie i ryzyko dalszego powodzenia przes\u0105dzi\u0142y o wybuchu powstania. Polscy dow\u00f3dcy &#8211; m.in. B\u00f3r Komorowski, oceniali, \u017ce walki zostan\u0105 przeprowadzone szybko i potrwaj\u0105 zaledwie kilka dni, w rzeczywisto\u015bci trwa\u0142y a\u017c 63 dni.<\/p>\n<p>W momencie wybuchu Powstanie Warszawskie niemieckie si\u0142y zbrojne (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.dobroni.pl\/wojsko,wehrmacht,10173\" target=\"_blank\">Wehrmacht<\/a>), otrzyma\u0142y od Hitlera rozkaz zr\u00f3wnania Warszawy z ziemi\u0105, miasto mia\u0142o przesta\u0107 istnie\u0107. Plan nie do ko\u0144ca si\u0119 spe\u0142ni\u0142, jednak straty poniesione podczas dwumiesi\u0119cznych walk by\u0142y ogromne.\u00a0<strong>Powstanie 44<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; straty po stronie polskiej wynios\u0142y oko\u0142o 10 tys. zabitych i 7 tys. zaginionych, 5 tys. rannych \u017co\u0142nierzy oraz od 120 do 200 tysi\u0119cy ofiar spo\u015br\u00f3d ludno\u015bci cywilnej. Navy\u0161e sa okupa\u010dn\u00e9 sily dozvedeli o povstan\u00ed asi hodinu pred jeho za\u010diatkom a zav\u010das tak stihli zorganizova\u0165 svoje jednotky do pohotovosti a zabezpe\u010dili niektor\u00e9 k\u013e\u00fa\u010dov\u00e9 miesta, tak\u017ee sa nepodarilo ovl\u00e1dnu\u0165 cel\u00fa predpokladan\u00fa oblas\u0165 ani z\u00edska\u0165 v\u0161etok predpokladan\u00fd materi\u00e1l. Ke\u010f \u010cerven\u00e1 arm\u00e1da zastavila svoj postup a dlho odmietala povstalcom pomoc s v\u00fdnimkou\u00a0<a title=\"Zbra\u0148\" href=\"http:\/\/sk.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Zbra%C5%88\">zbran\u00ed<\/a>\u00a0i\u00a0<a title=\"Mun\u00edcia\" href=\"http:\/\/sk.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mun%C3%ADcia\">mun\u00edcie<\/a>, bolo rozhodnut\u00e9. Povstanie bolo rozdrven\u00e9 a utopen\u00e9 v krvi.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Heinrich Himmler\" href=\"http:\/\/sk.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Heinrich_Himmler\">Heinrich Himmler<\/a>\u00a0nariadil na za\u010diatku povstania zni\u010di\u0165 mesto a vyhladi\u0165 jeho obyvate\u013estvo a tento rozkaz bol vzorne plnen\u00fd. Nemeck\u00e9 jednotky od za\u010diatku masovo vra\u017edili\u00a0<a title=\"Vojnov\u00fd zajatec\" href=\"http:\/\/sk.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Vojnov%C3%BD_zajatec\">vojnov\u00fdch zajatcov<\/a>\u00a0i nez\u00fa\u010dastnen\u00fdch civilistov. U\u0161etren\u00e9 nezostali ani o\u0161etrovate\u013eky \u010di novorodenci. Tak\u00fdto pr\u00edstup v\u0161ak n\u00fatil povstalcov bojova\u0165 a\u017e do \u00fapln\u00e9ho konca, \u010do len zvy\u0161ovalo h\u00fa\u017eevnatos\u0165 a odpor po\u013eskej obrany. Povstalci pritom sp\u00f4sobovali nemeckej strane \u0165a\u017ek\u00e9 straty, miestni nemeck\u00ed velitelia preto tento tvrd\u00fd postoj nakoniec revidovali.\u00a0<a title=\"2. okt\u00f3ber\" href=\"http:\/\/sk.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2._okt%C3%B3ber\">2. okt\u00f3bra<\/a>\u00a0bol vyhl\u00e1sen\u00fd\u00a0<a title=\"Mier\" href=\"http:\/\/sk.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mier\">mier<\/a>,\u00a0<a title=\"3. okt\u00f3ber\" href=\"http:\/\/sk.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/3._okt%C3%B3ber\">3. okt\u00f3bra<\/a>\u00a0o 5:00 vst\u00fapila v platnosti\u00a0<a title=\"Kapitul\u00e1cia\" href=\"http:\/\/sk.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kapitul%C3%A1cia\">kapitul\u00e1cia<\/a>\u00a0povstalcov, s\u013eubovan\u00e1 s podmienkou, \u017ee sa s nimi ako vojnov\u00fdmi zajatcami bude zaobch\u00e1dza\u0165 v s\u00falade so<a title=\"\u017denevsk\u00e9 konvencie\" href=\"http:\/\/sk.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/%C5%BDenevsk%C3%A9_konvencie\">\u017denevskou konvenciou<\/a>. Bezprostredne po kapitul\u00e1cii bola dohoda (s miernym oneskoren\u00fdm v niektor\u00fdch oblastiach) re\u0161pektovan\u00e1, nesk\u00f4r v\u0161ak u\u017e len v niektor\u00fdch pr\u00edpadoch.<\/p>\n<p>D\u00f4sledky por\u00e1\u017eky povstania boli pre\u00a0<a title=\"Po\u013esko\" href=\"http:\/\/sk.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Po%C4%BEsko\">Po\u013esko<\/a>\u00a0katastrof\u00e1lne. Bola pri \u0148om zdecimovan\u00e1 elita po\u013esk\u00e9ho n\u00e1roda, resp. to, \u010do z nej zostalo po piatich rokoch\u00a0<a title=\"Nacizmus\" href=\"http:\/\/sk.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Nacizmus\">nacistick\u00e9ho<\/a>\u00a0i\u00a0<a title=\"Komunizmus\" href=\"http:\/\/sk.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Komunizmus\">komunistick\u00e9ho<\/a>\u00a0teroru. Vo Var\u0161ave celkom zomrelo 200 000 civilistov, cez 700 000 ich bolo vyhnan\u00fdch z mesta, a to cel\u00e9 bolo zrovnan\u00e9 zo zemou. Medzi m\u0155tvymi civilistami i povstalcami bolo zna\u010dn\u00e9 zast\u00fapenie mlad\u00fdch \u013eud\u00ed a\u00a0<a title=\"Inteligencia (trieda)\" href=\"http:\/\/sk.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Inteligencia_(trieda)\">inteligenciou<\/a>, ktor\u00fd tvorili v\u00e4\u010d\u0161inu pr\u00edslu\u0161n\u00edkov povstaleck\u00fdch jednotiek. Rozdrvenie povstania a z\u00e1rove\u0148 znamenalo takmer \u00fapln\u00e9 zni\u010denie \u0161trukt\u00far\u00a0<a title=\"Po\u013esk\u00fd podzemn\u00fd \u0161t\u00e1t (str\u00e1nka neexistuje)\" href=\"http:\/\/sk.wikipedia.org\/w\/index.php?title=Po%C4%BEsk%C3%BD_podzemn%C3%BD_%C5%A1t%C3%A1t&amp;action=edit&amp;redlink=1\">Po\u013esk\u00e9ho podzemn\u00e9ho \u0161t\u00e1tu<\/a>\u00a0i<a title=\"Armia Krajowa\" href=\"http:\/\/sk.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Armia_Krajowa\">Armie Krajowej<\/a>.
