All Saints‘ Day<\/strong>\u00a0(also known as\u00a0All Hallows<\/strong>,\u00a0Solemnity of All Saints<\/strong>\u00a0or\u00a0The Feast of All Saints<\/strong>)[3]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0is a\u00a0solemnity<\/a>\u00a0celebrated on 1\u00a0November by parts of\u00a0Western Christianity<\/a>, and on the first Sunday after\u00a0Pentecost<\/a>\u00a0in\u00a0Eastern Christianity<\/a>, in honour of all the saints, known and unknown. All Saints‘ Day is the second day of\u00a0Hallowmas<\/a>,[4]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0and begins at sunrise on the first day of November and finishes at sundown. It is the day before\u00a0All Souls‘ Day<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In\u00a0Western Christian<\/a>\u00a0theology, the day commemorates all those who have attained the\u00a0beatific vision<\/a>\u00a0in Heaven. It is a\u00a0national holiday<\/a>\u00a0in many historically\u00a0Catholic countries<\/a>. In the Catholic Church and many\u00a0Anglican<\/a>\u00a0churches, the next day specifically commemorates the departed faithful who have not yet been\u00a0purified<\/a>\u00a0and reached heaven. Christians who celebrate All Saints‘ Day and All Souls‘ Day do so in the fundamental belief that there is a prayerful spiritual bond between those in heaven (the „Church triumphant<\/a>„), and the living (the „Church militant<\/a>„). Other Christian traditions define, remember and respond to the saints in different ways; for example, in the\u00a0Methodist Church<\/a>, the word „saints<\/a>“ refers to all\u00a0Christians<\/a>\u00a0and therefore, on All Saints‘ Day, the\u00a0Church Universal<\/a>, as well as the deceased members of a\u00a0local congregation<\/a>, are honored and remembered.<\/p>\n

W ten spos\u00f3b chciano podkre\u015bli\u0107, \u017ce \u015bwi\u0119ci s\u0105 w\u0142asno\u015bci\u0105 ca\u0142ego Ko\u015bcio\u0142a. Kiedy w\u00a0610<\/a>\u00a0papie\u017c\u00a0Bonifacy IV<\/a>\u00a0otrzyma\u0142 od cesarza staro\u017cytn\u0105 \u015bwi\u0105tyni\u0119\u00a0poga\u0144sk\u0105<\/a>\u00a0Panteon<\/a>, kaza\u0142 z\u0142o\u017cy\u0107 tam liczne relikwie i po\u015bwi\u0119ci\u0142 t\u0119 budowl\u0119 na ko\u015bci\u00f3\u0142 pod wezwaniem Matki Bo\u017cej M\u0119czennik\u00f3w. Od tego czasu oddawano cze\u015b\u0107 wszystkim zmar\u0142ym m\u0119czennikom, w dniu 13 maja.<\/p>\n

Powodem by\u0142y prawdopodobnie trudno\u015bci z wy\u017cywieniem rzesz pielgrzym\u00f3w przybywaj\u0105cych do Rzymu na wiosn\u0119. W\u00a0837<\/a>\u00a0Grzegorz IV<\/a>\u00a0rozporz\u0105dzi\u0142, aby odt\u0105d 1 listopada by\u0142 dniem po\u015bwi\u0119conym pami\u0119ci nie tylko m\u0119czennik\u00f3w, ale wszystkich \u015bwi\u0119tych\u00a0Ko\u015bcio\u0142a katolickiego<\/a>. Jednocze\u015bnie na pro\u015bb\u0119 cesarza\u00a0Ludwika Pobo\u017cnego<\/a>\u00a0rozszerzono to\u00a0\u015bwi\u0119to<\/a>\u00a0na ca\u0142y\u00a0Ko\u015bci\u00f3\u0142<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Jednym z najdawniejszych, zachowanych kaza\u0144 spisanych w j\u0119zyku polskim jest kazanie na Dzie\u0144 Wszystkich \u015awi\u0119tych (In Die Omnium Sanctorum). Kazanie to znajduje si\u0119 w r\u0119kopisie Biblioteki Kapitulnej w Pradze i pochodzi z po\u0142owy XV wieku[1]<\/a><\/sup>.<\/p>\n

Nast\u0119pnego dnia po Wszystkich \u015awi\u0119tych w\u00a0Dzie\u0144 Zaduszny<\/a>\u00a0(2 listopada) obchodzony jest dzie\u0144 wspominania zmar\u0142ych (w Polsce zwany Zaduszkami). Dla katolik\u00f3w \u0142aci\u0144skich i wielu innych chrze\u015bcijan zachodnich jest to dzie\u0144 modlitw za wszystkich wiernych zmar\u0142ych. Ludzie odwiedzaj\u0105 cmentarze, aby ozdobi\u0107 groby kwiatami, zapali\u0107 znicze.<\/p>\n
