Most of the Poles try to go to the church for the mass, where\u00a0 priests mark their heads with a cross of ashes while saying: Remember, man thou art dust and to dust thou shall return&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff0000; font-family: verdana, arial; font-size: x-small;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Lent \/ Wielki Post<br \/>\n<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #003366; font-family: verdana, arial; font-size: x-small;\">For Polish Catholics, Lent is the most reflective spiritual season. During this time people are fasting,\u00a0going to the confession,\u00a0 praying and visiting the specially decorated churches to see &#8222;Our Lord&#8217;s Grave&#8220;.\u00a0\u00a0Each parish strives to come up with the most artistically and religiously evocate arrangement in which the Blessed Sacrament, draped in a filmy veil, is prominently displayed. During the Lent most of the people do not eat meat on Fridays. The preparation for Easter begins with the six-week period of Lent, with its traditions of Stations of the Cross and the Bitter Lamentations devotion which traces the Passion and Crucifixion of Christ and lead-in with the hymn of &#8222;Gorzkie \u017cale przybywajcie&#8220;, which means; Come to us, bitter lamentations.\u00a0 Lent ends Saturday noon, but fasting is observed until Resurrection Mass.<\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000; font-family: verdana, arial; font-size: x-small;\">Palm Sunday \/ Niedziela Palmowa<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #003366; font-family: verdana, arial; font-size: x-small;\">\u00a0On this day people bring the puss willows branches or other custom made wild flowers bouquets instead of palms to the church for the blessing.\u00a0 Some older folks say that swallowing one of the buds from the puss willows branch will ensure health all year. Parishioners processed with the palms through the streets around the parish, celebrating the triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem.\u00a0\u00a0 Blessed &#8222;palms&#8220; are taken home and placed by the crucifix or holy images, and remain there until the next year.<\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000; font-family: verdana, arial; font-size: x-small;\">Holly Saturday<\/span><span style=\"color: #ff0000; font-family: verdana, arial; font-size: x-small;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #003366; font-family: verdana, arial; font-size: x-small;\">On Saturday people take to churches decorated baskets (Swieconka) containing a sampling of traditional food to be blessed. Swieconka is very popular Polish tradition (see below). Also this day typically Polish ceremonies are performed in the church yard. It is the blessing of the fire, the reverence which goes back to pagan times.<\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff0000; font-family: verdana, arial; font-size: x-small;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Food Blessing \/ Swieconka<\/span><\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nSwieconka is one of the most enduring and beloved Polish traditions. On Saturday people take to churches decorated baskets containing a sampling of traditional food to be blessed: hard-boiled shelled eggs, ham, sausage, salt, horseradish, fruits, bread and cake. Prominently displayed among these is the Easter lamb, usually molded from butter or sugar and colorful pisanki. The food have a symbolic meaning, for example:<br \/>\n* eggs &#8211; symbolize life and Christ&#8217;s resurrection,<br \/>\n* bread &#8211; symbolic of Jesus,<br \/>\n* lamb &#8211; represents Christ,<br \/>\n* salt &#8211; represents purification,<br \/>\n* horseradish &#8211; symbolic of the bitter sacrifice of Christ,<br \/>\n* ham &#8211; symbolic of great joy and abundance.<br \/>\nThe food blessed in the church remains untouched until Sunday morning.<\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000; font-family: verdana, arial; font-size: x-small;\">Written Eggs \/ Pisanki, Kraszanki, Malowanki, Drapanki, Wyklejanki, Nalepianki<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/strong>\u00a0The custom of coloring eggs for Easter is still observed in Polish custom. The eggs are decorated with many traditional Polish symbols of Easter. Most popular are lamb, cross, floral designs or Easter&#8217;s greetings such as Wesollego Alleluja.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Polish folk craft experts we divide Written Eggs to different categories. The eggs decorated with the use of treated wax are called &#8222;pisanki&#8220;. Another technique involved gluing colored paper or shiny fabric on them. The eggs which are painted in one color are called &#8222;malowanki&#8220; or &#8222;kraszanki&#8220;. If patterns are etched with a pointed instrument on top of the paint, the eggs are then called &#8222;skrobanki&#8220; or &#8222;rysowanki&#8220;.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff0000; font-family: verdana, arial; font-size: x-small;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Easter Sunday \/ Wielka Niedziela<\/span><\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nOn Easter morning, a special Resurrection Mass is celebrated in every church in Poland. At this Mass, a procession of priests, altar boys and the people circles the church three times while the church bells peal and the organ is played for the first time since they had been silenced on Good Friday.\u00a0Following the Mass, people return home to eat the food blessed the day before.<\/p>\n<p>The Easter table will be covered with a white tablecloth. The white tablecloth is indicative of the white swaddling cloth with which Our Lord was wrapped when he was placed in the Holy Sepulcher. On the middle of the table in most homes housewife will put\u00a0colored eggs, cold meats, coils of sausages, ham, yeast cakes, pound cakes, poppy-seed cakes, and\u00a0 a lamb made of sugar.\u00a0Polish Easter Soup called Zurek or White Barscz is often served at the Easter meal, garnished with the hard-boiled eggs and sausage. There is also tradition to share blessed eggs with the members of the family and wish each other\u00a0 good health, happiness\u00a0 for the rest of the year.<\/p>\n<p>It is interesting to mention that a Polish Easter is also a holiday for the housewife. It is a tradition that Polish women do not cook, do not work on Easter Sunday.<br \/>\nDuring this time the Polish homes are with its spirit of joy and good-will at a laden Easter Table, with its sugar Lamb and its blessed multi-colored eggs called in polish &#8222;pisanki&#8220;.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000; font-family: verdana, arial; font-size: x-small;\">Wet Monday \/\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000; font-family: verdana, arial; font-size: x-small;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: verdana, arial; font-size: x-small;\">Lany Poniedzialek<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #003366; font-family: verdana, arial; font-size: x-small;\"><br \/>\nMonday (just after aster) is a holiday in Poland and is called in polish &#8222;Lany Poniedzialek&#8220; or &#8222;Smigus- Dyngus&#8220;. This is a wonderful day of fun.<\/p>\n<p>The ancient Polish tradition on Easter Monday, is celebrated by everyone with enthusiasm by sprinkling each other with water. Especially kids have fun this day. Some people say that by being splashed with water on Easter Monday will bring you good luck throughout the year. \u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!--:--><!--:pl--><strong>Wielkanoc<\/strong>\u00a0jest najstarszym i najwa\u017cniejszym \u015bwi\u0119tem chrze\u015bcija\u0144skim, upami\u0119tniaj\u0105cym zmartwychwstanie Jezusa Chrystusa. Jest \u015bwi\u0119tem ruchomym, obchodzi si\u0119 je w pierwsz\u0105 niedziel\u0119 po pierwszej wiosennej pe\u0142ni Ksi\u0119\u017cyca (mi\u0119dzy 21 marca a 25 kwietnia). I to nie tylko po to, \u017ceby mieszkanie l\u015bni\u0142o czysto\u015bci\u0105. \u015awi\u0105teczne porz\u0105dki\u00a0 nale\u017c\u0105\u00a0 do tradycji, symbolizuj\u0105 bowiem usuwanie \u015blad\u00f3w zimy, a jednocze\u015bnie z\u0142a i chor\u00f3b z naszych dom\u00f3w i oczekiwanie na wiosn\u0119.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u015aniadanie wielkanocne<\/strong><br \/>\nW Wielk\u0105 Niedziel\u0119 po rezurekcji rodzina zasiada do \u015bwi\u0105tecznego \u015bniadania. Uroczysty st\u00f3\u0142 przykryty jest bia\u0142ym obrusem, udekorowany pisankami, kurczaczkami, baziami czy \u015bwie\u017cymi kwiatami, kt\u00f3re wprowadzaj\u0105 wiosenny nastr\u00f3j. Na \u201ehonorowym\u201d miejscu stoi koszyczek ze \u015bwi\u0119conk\u0105. \u015aniadanie wielkanocne rozpoczyna si\u0119 od dzielenia si\u0119 po\u015bwi\u0119conym jajkiem, co podobne jest w swej formie i symbolice do bo\u017conarodzeniowego \u0142amania si\u0119 op\u0142atkiem. Tego uroczystego poranka najpierw spo\u017cywa si\u0119 pokarmy, kt\u00f3re zosta\u0142y po\u015bwi\u0119cone poprzedniego dnia. Na stole nie mo\u017ce zabrakn\u0105\u0107 tradycyjnego \u017curu, mi\u0119s, w\u0119dlin, pasztet\u00f3w, faszerowanych jajek, a na deser dro\u017cd\u017cowej babki i mazurk\u00f3w. W ko\u015bcio\u0142ach \u015bwi\u0119ci si\u0119 palemki \u2013 r\u00f3zgi wierzbowe, ga\u0142\u0105zki bukszpanu, malin, porzeczek, ozdobione kwiatkami, mchem, zio\u0142ami, kolorowymi pi\u00f3rkami. Symboliczne uderzenie domownik\u00f3w palemk\u0105 zapewnia im szcz\u0119\u015bcie przez ca\u0142y rok. Palmy zatkni\u0119te za obraz lub w\u0142o\u017cone do wazon\u00f3w chroni\u0105 dom przed nieszcz\u0119\u015bciem i z\u0142o\u015bliwo\u015bci\u0105 s\u0105siad\u00f3w.<br \/>\n<strong>\u015awi\u0119conka\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\nWielka Sobota jest dniem radosnego oczekiwania. Nie mo\u017ce w nim zabrakn\u0105\u0107 jajek, kt\u00f3re s\u0105 symbolem\u00a0 narodzenia i nowego \u017cycia, baranka z cukru symbolizuj\u0105cego um\u0119czonego Chrystusa, chleba, soli, w\u0119dliny, chrzanu, \u015bwi\u0105tecznego ciasta. \u015awi\u0119conk\u0119 spo\u017cywa si\u0119 nast\u0119pnego dnia po rezurekcji.<br \/>\n<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>Pisanki<\/strong><br \/>\nJaja, kr\u00f3luj\u0105ce na wielkanocnym stole, s\u0105 symbolem \u017cycia i odrodzenia. Pi\u0119knie zdobione od wiek\u00f3w dekoruj\u0105 polskie sto\u0142y podczas \u015bwi\u0105t wielkanocnych.\u00a0 Wprawdzie przez lata sposoby barwienia i dekorowania jaj zmieni\u0142y si\u0119, ale tradycja pozosta\u0142a.\u00a0 W czasie \u015bwi\u0105t pisankami obdarowuje si\u0119 rodzin\u0119 i przyjaci\u00f3\u0142, co ma im zapewni\u0107 zdrowie, si\u0142\u0119 oraz powodzenie w sprawach sercowych.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lany Poniedzia\u0142ek\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\nLany Poniedzia\u0142ek, \u015amigus-dyngus przypada w drugi dzie\u0144 \u015bwi\u0105t, zwanym Poniedzia\u0142kiem Wielkanocnym. To zabawa, kt\u00f3ra polega na polewaniu wod\u0105 bliskich, a nawet nieznajomych os\u00f3b. Tradycja ta nawi\u0105zuje do dawnych praktyk poga\u0144skich, \u0142\u0105cz\u0105cych si\u0119 z symbolicznym budzeniem si\u0119 przyrody do \u017cycia, wiosennym oczyszczaniem z brudu i chor\u00f3b. Zmoczone tego dnia panny mia\u0142y wi\u0119ksze szanse na zam\u0105\u017cp\u00f3j\u015bcie.<br \/>\nDo dzi\u015b zwyczaj kropienia wod\u0105 \u015bwi\u0119con\u0105 p\u00f3l w poniedzia\u0142kowy ranek przez gospodarzy jest spotykany we wsiach na po\u0142udniu Polski. Wci\u0105\u017c \u017cywe jest r\u00f3wnie\u017c robienie psikus\u00f3w s\u0105siadom, takie jak zamienianie bram, umieszczanie na dachach narz\u0119dzi rolniczych, chowanie wiader na wod\u0119.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Potrawy wielkanocne\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\nPolska tradycja zwi\u0105zana z potrawami wielkanocnymi jest bardzo bogata. Do da\u0144, kt\u00f3re musz\u0105 znale\u017a\u0107 si\u0119 na \u015bwi\u0105tecznym stole nale\u017c\u0105: \u017curek, barszcz bia\u0142y, kie\u0142basa, pasztet, pieczenie, sa\u0142atki, jajka, mazurki, baby, serniki.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.potrawy.wielkanocne.pl\/\" target=\"_blank\">www.potrawy.wielkanocne.pl<\/a><br \/>\n\u017ar\u00f3d\u0142o:\u00a0<a title=\"Wielkanoc\" href=\"http:\/\/www.poland.gov.pl\/Wielkanoc,9998.html\">poland.gov.pl<\/a><!--:--><!--:SK-->Ve\u013ek\u00e1 noc je sviatkom kres\u0165ansk\u00fdm, preto je v\u00e4\u010d\u0161ina zvykov rovnak\u00e1 v mnoh\u00fdch krajin\u00e1ch, najm\u00e4 t\u00fdch susediacich. Po\u013esko je pova\u017eovan\u00e9 za silno katol\u00edcku krajinu, tak\u017ee je samozrejm\u00e9, \u017ee trad\u00edcie s n\u00e1bo\u017eensk\u00fdm podtextom sa tam dodr\u017eiavaj\u00fa ve\u013emi d\u00f4sledne. Mnoh\u00e9 z ve\u013ekono\u010dn\u00fdch zvykov m\u00e1me s na\u0161imi severn\u00fdmi susedmi toto\u017en\u00e9 &#8211; napr\u00edklad oblievanie na Ve\u013ekono\u010dn\u00fd pondelok, \u010di ma\u013eovanie krasl\u00edc. Niektor\u00e9 zvyky s\u00fa v\u0161ak &#8211; ako tvrdia sami Poliaci &#8211; typick\u00e9 len pre nich. Zis\u0165ovala ich Zuzana Koh\u00fatkov\u00e1.<\/p>\n<p>V Po\u013esku, tak ako na Slovensku, pred ve\u013ekono\u010dn\u00fdmi sviatkami zdobia vaj\u00ed\u010dka. Na\u0161e kraslice v\u0161ak Poliaci naz\u00fdvaj\u00fa &#8211; p\u00edsanky. Zrejme to vzniklo z toho, \u017ee sa \u201ep\u00edsalo voskom\u201c. \u010ci\u017ee nan\u00e1\u0161an\u00edm vosku sa vytv\u00e1rali na vaj\u00ed\u010dku vzory, \u010do je technika zn\u00e1ma aj u n\u00e1s.<\/p>\n<p>\u010eal\u0161ia technika je vy\u0161krabk\u00e1vanie vzorov na vaj\u00ed\u010dkach &#8211; a tieto kraslice naz\u00fdvali Poliaci \u201ekro\u0161onkami\u201d alebo \u201ekra\u0161ankami\u201d. \u010ci\u017ee v podstate &#8211; vzdialene to slovo pripom\u00edna na\u0161e kraslice. Dnes je v\u0161ak ka\u017ed\u00e9 ma\u013eovan\u00e9 ve\u013ekono\u010dn\u00e9 vaj\u00ed\u010dko u na\u0161ich severn\u00fdch susedov len \u201ep\u00edsankou\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Najzdatnej\u0161ie gazdin\u00e9 boli kedysi schopn\u00e9 vyrobi\u0165 aj 200 krasl\u00edc. Poliaci potom h\u00e1dzali farebn\u00e9 \u0161krupinky do rieky spolu so \u017eelaniami, aby sa im darilo. Najstar\u0161iu po\u013esk\u00fa \u201ep\u00edsanku\u201d poch\u00e1dzaj\u00facu 10. storo\u010dia na\u0161li v okol\u00ed juhopo\u013esk\u00e9ho mesta Opole.<\/p>\n<p>Ak chceme hovori\u0165 o rozdieloch medzi Poliakmi a nami, pokia\u013e ide o Ve\u013ek\u00fa noc, mali by sme sa vr\u00e1ti\u0165 dozadu. E\u0161te 50 dn\u00ed pred ve\u013ekono\u010dn\u00fdmi sviatkami maj\u00fa Poliaci tzv. \u201etu\u010dn\u00fd \u0161tvrtok\u201d. Tak ako Ve\u013ek\u00e1 noc, aj tento de\u0148 je v d\u00e1tume pohybliv\u00fd &#8211; mus\u00ed by\u0165 na\u010dasovan\u00fd na t\u00fdch 50 dn\u00ed pred a mus\u00ed to by\u0165 v\u017edy vo \u0161tvrtok. Poliaci vtedy jedia cel\u00fd de\u0148 sladk\u00e9 \u0161i\u0161ky. A tie musia by\u0165 skuto\u010dne, ako sa hovor\u00ed, presiaknut\u00e9 mas\u0165ou, v ktorej sa pra\u017eili. A treba ich zjes\u0165 najmenej tri. Je to v podstate p\u00e1r dn\u00ed pred koncom fa\u0161iangov a za\u010diatkom ve\u013ek\u00e9ho p\u00f4stu. Mo\u017eno preto \u201etu\u010dn\u00fd \u0161tvrtok\u201c, aby si \u013eudia urobili v tele tu\u010dn\u00e9 z\u00e1soby pred t\u00fdm p\u00f4stom.<\/p>\n<p>Sedem dn\u00ed pred Ve\u013ekou nocou je zasa Kvetn\u00e1 nede\u013ea. Poliaci ju v\u0161ak maj\u00fa Palmov\u00fa. Samozrejme, kedysi to aj v Po\u013esku bola Kvetn\u00e1, \u010di V\u0155bov\u00e1, dnes v\u0161ak nikto nepovie inak ako Palmov\u00e1 nede\u013ea. Je to zvl\u00e1\u0161tne, \u017ee na sever od n\u00e1s hovor\u00edme o palm\u00e1ch. S\u00favis\u00ed to v\u0161ak s triumf\u00e1lnym pr\u00edchodom Je\u017ei\u0161a Krista do Jeruzalema, ke\u010f obyvatelia st\u00ednali palmov\u00e9 listy, m\u00e1vali nimi a urobili z nich zelen\u00fd koberec na ceste. Palmov\u00e9 listy boli znakom \u00facty, sv\u00e4tosti a v\u00ed\u0165azstva. Dnes si to Poliaci pripom\u00ednaj\u00fa t\u00fdm, \u017ee si dom \u010di byt vyzdobia \u201epalmami\u201d. Pri t\u00fdch palm\u00e1ch po\u010du\u0165 op\u00e4\u0165 \u00favodzovky, preto\u017ee nejde o palmy ozajstn\u00e9. U\u017e nieko\u013eko dn\u00ed pred Palmovou nede\u013eou sa v\u0161ade pred\u00e1vaj\u00fa pestrofarebn\u00e9 chocholy r\u00f4znych ve\u013ekost\u00ed &#8211; od nieko\u013ekocentimetrov\u00fdch, a\u017e po kusy nad jeden meter. Chocholy symbolizuj\u00fa palmy a Poliaci ich aj tak volaj\u00fa.<\/p>\n<p>Tie chocholy si na\u0161i severn\u00ed susedia robili vlastne z v\u0155bov\u00fdch pr\u00fatov. Pr\u00fatmi sa potom udierali pre \u0161\u0165astie na Ve\u013ekono\u010dn\u00fd pondelok. Ale toto, \u010do pripom\u00edna \u0161iba\u010dku, dnes u\u017e v Po\u013esku nepraktizuj\u00fa. \u010casto tie\u017e jedli bahniatka &#8211; pre zdravie.<\/p>\n<p>Typicky po\u013esk\u00fdm ve\u013ekono\u010dn\u00fdm zvykom, ako to oni sami tvrdia, s\u00fa n\u00e1v\u0161tevy hrobov &#8211; od Ve\u013ek\u00e9ho piatku do Bielej soboty, ale len do 13. hodiny.
